Lomana LuaLua, born on December twenty-eighth, nineteen eighty, in Kinshasa, is a former professional footballer from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, who made his mark as a striker. After relocating to England at a young age, he showcased his talent in a college football match, which led to his signing with Colchester United. During his time there, he netted twenty-one goals in sixty-eight appearances, catching the attention of Newcastle United.
At Newcastle, LuaLua faced stiff competition for a starting position, resulting in limited first-team opportunities. Over four seasons, he made eighty-eight appearances before transferring to Portsmouth, where he had previously enjoyed a brief loan spell. His time at Portsmouth was challenging, marred by disciplinary issues and a bout of malaria, yet he remained with the club for three seasons.
LuaLua's career took him across various countries, including Greece, Qatar, Cyprus, and Turkey, alongside a short return to English football with Blackpool. On the international stage, he earned thirty-one caps for the Congolese national team, scoring seven goals throughout an eleven-year career, during which he participated in four Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.
Beyond football, LuaLua is dedicated to philanthropy, having established the LuaLua Foundation to support orphans in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He also serves as a patron for the Haslar Visitors Group. Football runs in his family, with his brother Kazenga and cousins Trésor Kandol and Yannick Bolasie also pursuing careers in the sport.
