In eighteen ninety-two, Lavallée collaborated with Hormidas Laporte to establish the Alliance Nationale insurance company, showcasing his entrepreneurial spirit. Although he faced defeat in the federal election for the St. James riding in eighteen ninety-six, he persevered and became a local councillor in Montreal. He initially represented the Saint-Jacques ward starting in nineteen hundred and later served the La Fontaine ward from nineteen oh four.
Lavallée's political career reached new heights in nineteen twelve when he was elected Mayor of Montreal, a position he held until the election in nineteen fourteen.
