Louis, Count of Évreux

Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Louis, Count of Évreux

Louis, Count of Évreux, born on May third, one thousand two hundred seventy-six, was a notable Capetian prince and the only son of King Philip III of France and his second wife, Marie of Brabant. This lineage made him a half-brother to King Philip IV, placing him within the intricate web of French royal politics.

Characterized by a quiet and reflective demeanor, Louis often found himself at odds with the ambitious schemes of his half-brother, Charles of Valois. Despite these familial tensions, he maintained a close relationship with his nephew, Philip V, and played a significant role in the political landscape of his time, notably as one of the negotiators of the Treaty of Paris in one thousand three, which concluded the Gascon War.

In his personal life, Louis married Margaret of Artois, the daughter of Philip of Artois and sister to Robert III of Artois. Together, they had several children, including Marie, who married John III, Duke of Brabant; Charles, Count of Étampes, who wed Maria de la Cerda; Philip III of Navarre, who took Joan II of Navarre as his wife; Margaret, who married William XII of Auvergne; and Joan, who became the wife of Charles IV of France.
