Louis Fortin

Louis Fortin, born on December first, nineteen twenty, in Lévis, Quebec, was a prominent figure in Canadian politics and law. He pursued a career as a lawyer, which laid the foundation for his subsequent political endeavors.

A member of the Progressive Conservative party, Fortin made his mark in the House of Commons of Canada. His political journey included an ambitious attempt to unseat Jean Lesage in the Montmagny—L'Islet riding during the nineteen fifty-seven federal election as an independent candidate, though this effort was unsuccessful.

Fortin's fortunes changed when Lesage resigned from Parliament in June nineteen fifty-eight to lead the Quebec provincial Liberals. Seizing the opportunity, Fortin won a byelection in Montmagny—L'Islet on September twenty-ninth, nineteen fifty-eight, and served for the remainder of the twenty-fourth Canadian Parliament.

However, his political career faced a setback in the nineteen sixty-two election when he was defeated by Jean-Paul Cook of the Social Credit Party. Following this loss, Fortin chose not to campaign for a House of Commons seat again, marking the end of his political aspirations.
