Louis-Georges Desjardins

Louis-Georges Desjardins, born on May twelfth, eighteen forty-nine, in Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, Canada East, was a prominent Canadian journalist and politician. He was the son of François Roy dit Desjardins and Clarisse Miville dit Deschênes. His educational journey took him through the esteemed Collège de Lévis and the Military College, laying a strong foundation for his future endeavors.

Desjardins made his mark in journalism as the editor-in-chief of the newspaper Le Canadien from eighteen seventy-five to eighteen eighty. His political career began when he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Quebec for the Montmorency electoral district in the eighteen eighty-one election. A member of the Conservative Party, he was re-elected in eighteen eighty-six but faced defeat in eighteen ninety.

In an interesting turn of events, Desjardins was elected to the House of Commons of Canada for Montmorency in a by-election in eighteen ninety. He continued to serve as a Conservative, winning re-election in the eighteen ninety-one election for the L'Islet electoral district. His political journey took a new direction in eighteen ninety-two when he resigned to become the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly of Quebec, a role he held until nineteen twelve.

Beyond his political and journalistic pursuits, Desjardins also served as a Lieutenant-Colonel of the 17th Levis Battalion in the Volunteer Militia. His life came to a close in nineteen twenty-eight, and he was laid to rest at the Notre Dame des Neiges Cemetery in Montreal, leaving behind a legacy of service and dedication.
