Louis of Nassau

Louis of Nassau, born on January tenth, fifteen thirty-eight, was a prominent Dutch nobleman and military leader. As the third son of William I, Count of Nassau-Siegen, and Juliana of Stolberg, he was part of a distinguished lineage that played a crucial role in the history of the Netherlands.

Unlike his elder brother, Prince William of Orange, Louis was a staunch Calvinist, which influenced his political and military endeavors. He became a pivotal figure in the revolt against Spanish rule, demonstrating his commitment to the cause of Dutch independence.

In fifteen sixty-nine, Louis was appointed governor of the principality of Orange by his brother William. This appointment not only solidified his influence in the region but also positioned him as a significant player in the intricate landscape of French politics.

Throughout his life, Louis supported William in various capacities, including facilitating the marriage between William and his second wife, Anna of Saxony. His contributions to the Dutch struggle for freedom and his unwavering faith left a lasting legacy.
