Louis the Younger

Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Louis the Younger

Louis the Younger, also known as Louis the Saxon or Louis III, was born around the year eight hundred thirty to King Louis the German and Queen Hemma. He was the middle child among three brothers, with Carloman being the eldest and Charles the youngest. Following the death of their father, the brothers ascended to the throne of Eastern Francia on twenty-eight August eight hundred seventy-six, each taking control of different regions as per a prearranged partition.

In this division of power, Louis governed Franconia, Saxony, and Thuringia, while Carloman ruled over Bavaria and the Pannonian March, and Charles took charge of Alamannia. The brothers also shared authority over the eastern parts of Lotharingia. Between the years eight hundred seventy-nine and eight hundred eighty, Louis expanded his influence by acquiring the western part of Lotharingia.

Tragedy struck in eight hundred eighty when Carloman passed away, leading to Louis inheriting his brother's realm. By the following year, Charles had secured control over Italy and was crowned as emperor. Louis's reign, however, was cut short when he died in eight hundred eighty-two, leaving no legitimate heirs. His territories, which comprised a significant portion of East Francia, were subsequently passed on to his brother Charles.
