Louise Arbour

Louise Arbour, born on February tenth, nineteen forty-seven, is a distinguished Canadian lawyer, diplomat, and jurist. Her illustrious career includes serving as the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, where she championed global human rights initiatives. Arbour's legal acumen was further demonstrated during her tenure as a justice of the Supreme Court of Canada and the Court of Appeal for Ontario.

As a former Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda, Arbour made history by indicting a sitting head of state, Yugoslavian president Slobodan Milošević. She also pioneered the prosecution of sexual assault as a crime against humanity, marking a significant milestone in international law.

From two thousand nine to two thousand fourteen, she led the International Crisis Group as President and CEO, where she focused on conflict resolution and advocacy for human rights. In addition, her role as the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for International Migration from March two thousand seventeen to December two thousand eighteen highlighted her commitment to addressing global migration issues.
