Louise Élisabeth d'Orléans

Louise Élisabeth d'Orléans, born on December ninth, seventeen oh nine, was a notable figure in Spanish history as the Queen consort of Spain, married to King Louis I. Their reign, however, was remarkably brief, lasting only seven months, marking it as one of the shortest in royal history.

As the fourth daughter to survive to adulthood of Philippe II, Duke of Orléans, and Françoise Marie de Bourbon, Louise Élisabeth faced significant challenges during her time in the Spanish court. Her tenure was marred by numerous incidents and scandals, which led to her being often disliked among the royal circles. Reports of her social faux pas, including walking around the palace unclothed and provocatively displaying her intimate parts in public, contributed to her controversial reputation.

Modern interpretations of her behavior suggest that she may have suffered from a severe borderline personality disorder, providing a context for her actions that were often deemed inappropriate. After the death of her husband, Louise Élisabeth returned to France, where she spent her final days at the Luxembourg Palace in Paris.
