Luc Frieden

Luc Frieden, born on September sixteenth, nineteen sixty-three, is a prominent Luxembourgish politician and lawyer who has recently taken on the role of prime minister of Luxembourg as of November twenty-third, twenty twenty-three. A dedicated member of the Christian Social People's Party (CSV), Frieden has a rich history of public service, having held various cabinet positions in the Luxembourgish government from nineteen ninety-eight to twenty thirteen.

During his tenure, he notably served as the minister for the Treasury and Budget, playing a crucial role in the transition from the Franc to the Euro. His expertise was further highlighted when he took on the position of minister of Finance amid the European debt crisis, showcasing his ability to navigate complex economic challenges.

After stepping away from politics, Frieden transitioned to the private sector, where he served as president of the Luxembourgish Chamber of Commerce and Eurochambres, the business federation representing European Chambers of Commerce and Industry. His leadership in these roles underscored his commitment to fostering economic growth and collaboration.

In early twenty twenty-three, Frieden was elected as the lead candidate for the CSV in the upcoming general elections. His campaign proved successful, as he led the party to victory in October, slightly increasing its vote share while maintaining its twenty-one seats. This shift in the political landscape resulted in the incumbent Bettel II Government losing its majority due to a decline in support for The Greens.

Following this electoral success, on October ninth, twenty twenty-three, Grand Duke Henri appointed Frieden to form a new coalition government. He officially succeeded Xavier Bettel as prime minister on November seventeenth, with Bettel taking on the role of deputy prime minister and minister for Foreign Affairs.
