Luc Luycx

Luc Luycx, born on April eleventh, nineteen fifty-eight, in Aalst, Belgium, is a distinguished sculptor and designer renowned for his contributions to coin design. Currently residing in Dendermonde, Luycx has made a significant mark in the world of numismatics.

As a computer engineer and medallist, Luycx's expertise led him to the Royal Belgian Mint, where he honed his skills in coin design. His career took a pivotal turn in nineteen ninety-six when he won a prestigious competition to design the common side of the euro coins, a project that would see his work circulate across Europe.

One of the most recognizable features of Luycx's design is his signature, which appears as two interconnected L letters (LL) on all euro coins. This distinctive mark can be found beneath the O in the word EURO on both the one-euro and two-euro coins, symbolizing his lasting impact on European currency.
