Lucie Aubrac

Lucie Aubrac, born Lucie Samuel (née Bernard) on June twenty-ninth, nineteen twelve, was a remarkable figure in the French Resistance during World War II. A dedicated history teacher, she achieved a history agrégation in nineteen thirty-eight, a significant accomplishment for a woman of her time. Her commitment to education and history laid the foundation for her later activism.

In nineteen thirty-nine, Lucie married Raymond Samuel, who adopted the name Aubrac as part of their resistance efforts. Together, they became deeply involved in communist activism, a cause that Lucie continued to champion even after the war. Her bravery was evident in her participation in various operations, including daring prison breakouts that showcased her commitment to the fight against oppression.

From nineteen forty-four to nineteen forty-five, Lucie served in the Provisional Consultative Assembly in Paris, further solidifying her role as a leader in the post-war reconstruction of France. Her life and contributions were later immortalized in the nineteen ninety-seven film 'Lucie Aubrac,' directed by Claude Berri, which brought her story to a wider audience.

In recognition of her legacy, the Paris Métro station Bagneux–Lucie Aubrac was named in her honor, ensuring that her contributions to history and the resistance will not be forgotten.
