Ludy Langer

Ludy Langer, born on January 22, 1893, was a remarkable American swimmer whose legacy continues to inspire athletes today. A Hall of Fame inductee, Langer made his mark in the world of competitive swimming, particularly in freestyle events, while representing the University of California, Berkeley.

His athletic prowess was showcased on the international stage when he competed in the 1920 Antwerp Olympics, where he earned a silver medal in the 400-meter freestyle. This achievement not only highlighted his exceptional talent but also solidified his status as one of the leading swimmers of his time.

After graduating from U.C. Berkeley in 1916, Langer relocated to Hawaii, where he continued to train and work. His dedication to the sport was evident as he became one of six Hawaii-based swimmers who participated in the 1920 Summer Olympics, collectively bringing home an impressive seven medals.
