Luigi Colani

Luigi Colani, born on August second, nineteen twenty-eight, was a pioneering German industrial designer whose innovative spirit reshaped the landscape of design. His career took flight in the 1950s, during which he crafted automobiles for renowned manufacturers such as Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Volkswagen, and BMW. In a bold move in nineteen fifty-seven, he adopted the name Luigi, leaving behind his birth name, Lutz.

As the sixties rolled in, Colani's creative vision expanded beyond the automotive realm, leading him to explore furniture design. By the seventies, his artistic reach extended into a myriad of domains, including household items like ballpoint pens and television sets, as well as uniforms, trucks, and even entire kitchens. One of his most notable creations, the Pegasus grand piano, is produced by the esteemed Schimmel piano company.

Colani's distinctive and unconventional designs garnered him fame not only within design circles but also among the general public. His unique approach to industrial design earned him numerous accolades, although it also positioned him as somewhat of an outsider in the mainstream design community.
