Luigi Di Maio

Luigi Di Maio, born on July sixth, nineteen eighty-six, is a prominent Italian politician and publicist journalist. He has been serving as the EU Special Representative for the Gulf region since June first, twenty twenty-three. His political career has seen him take on significant roles, including Minister of Foreign Affairs from two thousand nineteen to two thousand twenty-two, and Deputy Prime Minister of Italy, as well as Minister of Economic Development, Labour and Social Policies from two thousand eighteen to two thousand nineteen.

From September two thousand seventeen to January two thousand twenty, Di Maio led the Five Star Movement, an anti-establishment party founded by Beppe Grillo. His leadership was marked by a coalition with the centre-left Democratic Party, a move that ultimately led to his resignation to address internal discontent and prevent further party desertions and expulsions.

In June two thousand twenty-two, Di Maio departed from the Five Star Movement due to escalating tensions with Giuseppe Conte regarding support for Ukraine amid the Russian invasion. Following this split, he established his own political group, Together for the Future (IpF). However, this new venture was short-lived, as it was disbanded after a disappointing performance in the two thousand twenty-two Italian general election, where it participated within the Civic Commitment electoral list alongside the Democratic Centre.
