Luigi Rossi

Luigi Rossi, born in the year sixteen hundred in the quaint town of Torremaggiore, near Foggia, emerged as a prominent figure in the Italian Baroque music scene. His early life was marked by a significant move to Naples, where he honed his musical talents under the guidance of the esteemed Franco-Flemish composer Jean de Macque. Macque, known for his role as the organist of the Santa Casa dell’Annunziata and maestro di cappella to the Spanish viceroy, played a crucial role in shaping Rossi's artistic development.

Rossi's musical journey led him to serve the illustrious Caetani family, the dukes of Traetta. This association not only elevated his status as a composer but also allowed him to explore the rich tapestry of operatic and vocal music that characterized the Baroque era. His contributions to the genre were significant, blending intricate melodies with dramatic narratives.
