Luis Bacalov

Luis Bacalov, born on August thirtieth, nineteen thirty-three, was an Argentine film composer and musical director who later became a naturalized Italian citizen. His musical journey began under the tutelage of Enrique Barenboim, the father of renowned conductor Daniel Barenboim, and Berta Sujovolsky. This early education laid the foundation for a prolific career in music.

Venturing into the realm of cinema, Bacalov became known for his iconic scores for numerous Spaghetti Western films, which have since become classics. His work in the early nineteen seventies also saw him collaborating with various Italian progressive rock bands, showcasing his versatility and innovative spirit in the music industry.

Throughout his career, Bacalov received two nominations for the Academy Award for Best Original Score, ultimately winning the prestigious award in nineteen ninety-six for his work on the film 'Il Postino.' In addition to his film compositions, he created significant works for chorus and orchestra, further solidifying his legacy in the world of music.

Before his passing, Bacalov served as the artistic director of the Orchestra della Magna Grecia in Taranto, Italy, where he continued to influence and inspire musicians and audiences alike.
