Luis Garavito

Luis Garavito, born on January twenty-fifth, nineteen fifty-seven, is infamously known as one of the most prolific serial killers in modern history. Operating primarily in western Colombia, Garavito's heinous acts spanned from the autumn of nineteen eighty to April twenty-first, nineteen ninety-nine. During this period, he was responsible for the sexual assault of approximately two hundred minors, with a staggering one hundred ninety-three confirmed murders, predominantly targeting young boys aged six to sixteen.

Garavito's criminal activities began in the early eighties, escalating to a series of brutal torture-rapes that would haunt Colombia for years. His methods were characterized by extreme violence, including rape, torture, mutilation, and ultimately, murder. In addition to his Colombian victims, he is also linked to four murders in Ecuador during the summer of nineteen ninety-eight, further solidifying his reputation as a dangerous predator.

His downfall came on April twenty-second, nineteen ninety-nine, when he was apprehended for the attempted rape of a twelve-year-old boy named John Iván Sabogal. Following months of suspicion, Garavito confessed to his crimes on October twenty-eighth, nineteen ninety-nine. The Colombian court sentenced him to an astonishing total of one thousand eight hundred fifty-three years and nine days in prison, a reflection of the gravity of his offenses.

Garavito's confessions revealed a chilling insight into his psyche, suggesting that he may have murdered as many as two hundred twenty-one individuals, including twenty-three minors and five adults.
