Luís Montenegro

Luís Montenegro, born on February sixteenth, nineteen seventy-three, is a prominent Portuguese politician and lawyer. He has been serving as the Prime Minister of Portugal since April twenty twenty-four, leading the twenty-fifth Constitutional Government. Montenegro is also the president of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), a position he has held since two thousand twenty-two.

His political career began in the Assembly of the Republic, where he represented Aveiro from two thousand two to two thousand eighteen. During this time, he led his party's parliamentary group from two thousand eleven to two thousand seventeen. After a setback in the two thousand twenty leadership election against Rui Rio, Montenegro made a comeback by defeating Jorge Moreira da Silva in two thousand twenty-two to become the president of the PSD.

Under his leadership, the PSD formed a coalition with the CDS-PP, known as the Democratic Alliance, which successfully won a plurality of seats in the two thousand twenty-four Portuguese legislative election. Following this victory, he was appointed Prime Minister by President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, leading a coalition minority government.

However, Montenegro's government faced challenges and fell in March twenty twenty-five after losing a vote of confidence amid an alleged conflict of interest affair. Despite this setback, the Democratic Alliance increased its plurality of seats in the subsequent snap election, allowing Montenegro to form the twenty-fifth Constitutional Government.
