Lupe Fiasco

Wasalu Muhammad Jaco, known to the world as Lupe Fiasco, was born on February 16, 1982, in Chicago. He is a multifaceted artist, recognized not only as a rapper and singer but also as a songwriter, record producer, educator, fashion designer, activist, entrepreneur, and businessperson. His journey into the world of hip hop began in his teenage years, despite an initial aversion to the genre's themes. At nineteen, he adopted the stage name Lupe Fiasco and began recording in his father's basement, eventually joining a short-lived hip hop group called Da Pak.

Fiasco gained significant attention in 2006 with his guest appearance on Kanye West's hit single "Touch the Sky," which helped propel him into the mainstream music scene. His debut studio album, "Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor," released in the same year, was a critical success, peaking in the top ten of the Billboard 200 and earning four Grammy nominations. The album's singles, including the breakthrough track "Kick, Push," marked his entry as a lead artist on the Billboard Hot 100, while "Daydreamin'" won a Grammy for Best Urban/Alternative Performance.

His follow-up album, "Lupe Fiasco's The Cool," released in 2007, continued to solidify his reputation, featuring the hit single "Superstar." After a two-year hiatus, he released "Lasers" in 2011, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, driven by the success of the single "The Show Goes On." Beyond music, Lupe Fiasco has ventured into fashion, launching two clothing lines, Righteous Kung-Fu and Trilly & Truly, and designing footwear for Reebok. His philanthropic efforts include participating in the Summit on the Summit expedition and recording a benefit single for the victims of the 2010 Haiti earthquake. In 2025, he joined Johns Hopkins University as a Distinguished Visiting Professor in the Bachelor of Music degree program, further emphasizing his commitment to education and social issues.
