Lusine Zakaryan

Lusine Zakaryan, born Svetlana Zakaryan on June 1, 1937, in Akhaltsikhe, Georgian SSR, emerged as a prominent Armenian soprano whose voice resonated through the halls of both traditional and contemporary music. Growing up in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region of southern Georgia, she moved to Yerevan in 1952 with her family, where her passion for music flourished.

In 1957, she enrolled at the Yerevan State Musical Conservatory, where her exceptional singing talent quickly became evident. From 1970 to 1983, Zakaryan captivated audiences as a soloist with the symphony orchestra of Armenian TV and Radio. Her contributions to the choir of the Armenian Apostolic Church's Holy See at the Etchmiadzin Cathedral are particularly cherished, as she is remembered for her soulful renditions of ancient Armenian spiritual hymns.

Zakaryan's repertoire extended beyond Armenian music; she was also celebrated for her performances of international opera. In July 1968, she married Khoren Palian, a former priest and fellow singer known for his church music. Together, they shared a deep commitment to their musical heritage.

Tragically, Lusine Zakaryan passed away on December 30, 1992, in Yerevan, Armenia. Her legacy endures, and she rests at the Saint Gayane Church in Etchmiadzin, a testament to her profound impact on Armenian music.
