Lutgardis

Lutgardis, a revered Catholic Benedictine nun, was born in the year one thousand one hundred eighty-two in the town of Tongeren, located in the medieval Low Countries of the Holy Roman Empire. Known also as Lutgardis of Tongres or Luitgard of Tonger(e)n, she embarked on her monastic journey at the tender age of twelve, dedicating her life to spiritual pursuits and the service of God.

Throughout her lifetime, Lutgardis became renowned for the various miracles attributed to her, which further solidified her status as a significant figure in the religious community. Her experiences of religious ecstasy were well-documented, showcasing her deep connection to the divine and her commitment to her faith.

Her legacy continues to be celebrated, particularly on her feast day, which falls on the sixteenth of June. Lutgardis remains an inspiring example of devotion and piety, leaving an indelible mark on the history of the Benedictine order.
