Lydia Cacho

Lydia Cacho, born on April twelfth, nineteen sixty-three, is a prominent Mexican journalist, feminist, and human rights defender. Renowned for her fearless investigative reporting, she has become a leading voice against violence and sexual abuse directed at women and children in Mexico. Her work has garnered international recognition, with Amnesty International describing her as perhaps the most famous investigative journalist and women's rights advocate in the country.

In two thousand four, Cacho's groundbreaking book, Los Demonios del Edén (The Demons of Eden), ignited a nationwide scandal by exposing a conspiracy among influential businessmen to protect a pedophilia ring. This courageous act of journalism led to severe repercussions, including a shocking tape that surfaced in two thousand six, revealing a plot between businessman Kamel Nacif Borge and Puebla's governor, Mario Plutarco Marín Torres, to have Cacho assaulted for her revelations. Marín Torres was ultimately arrested for alleged torture on February third, twenty twenty-one.

Throughout her career, Cacho has received numerous prestigious awards for her unwavering commitment to journalism and human rights. Among her accolades are the Civil Courage Prize, the Wallenberg Medal, and the Olof Palme Prize.
