Lyudvig Chibirov

Lyudvig Chibirov, born on November nineteenth, nineteen thirty-two, is a prominent figure in South Ossetian politics and history. He served as the Chairman of the Parliament before transitioning to become the first president of South Ossetia following the inaugural elections in nineteen ninety-six. Chibirov had been at the helm of South Ossetia's government since nineteen ninety-three, making significant contributions to the region's political landscape.

In the pivotal elections of nineteen ninety-six, Chibirov secured an impressive sixty-five percent of the vote, decisively defeating former Prime Minister Vladislav Gabaraev, who garnered around twenty percent. This election was marked by controversy, as Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze condemned the process, labeling it as unlawful. Chibirov's victory marked a significant shift in the governance of South Ossetia, as he became the first to occupy the newly established presidential office.

However, the subsequent elections in two thousand one proved to be a turning point for Chibirov. At the age of sixty-nine, he received less than twenty percent of the votes, while his opponents, Stanislav Kochiev and Eduard Kokoity, gained considerable support, with Kokoity winning over forty-eight percent.
