Madhubala, born Mumtaz Jehan Begum Dehlavi on February 14, 1933, in Delhi, was an iconic Indian actress whose influence on Hindi cinema remains unparalleled. Relocating to Bombay at the tender age of eight, she began her acting career with minor roles, quickly ascending to prominence in the late 1940s. Her early successes included notable films such as Neel Kamal and Mahal, which showcased her versatility and talent.

Throughout her illustrious two-decade career, Madhubala starred in over seventy films, ranging from comedies to historical dramas. The 1950s marked her peak as one of the highest-paid stars in India, with memorable performances in films like Mr. & Mrs. '55, Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, and the musical Barsaat Ki Raat. Her portrayal of Anarkali in the epic Mughal-e-Azam remains a defining moment in her career, earning her critical acclaim and a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress.

Despite her success, Madhubala faced personal challenges, including health issues stemming from a ventricular septal defect, which plagued her throughout her life. She maintained a private life, yet her relationships, particularly with actor Dilip Kumar and later with Kishore Kumar, garnered significant media attention. In addition to her acting career, she co-founded Madhubala Private Ltd., producing three films.
