Madjid Bougherra

Madjid Bougherra, born on October 7, 1982, in France, is a distinguished football manager and former professional player. He is currently the head coach of the Lebanon national team, having previously made a significant impact as a centre-back for the Algeria national team.

Bougherra's professional journey began with French club Gueugnon, and he later played for several clubs in England, including Crewe Alexandra, Sheffield Wednesday, and Charlton Athletic. His career took a notable turn in 2008 when he joined Rangers for a transfer fee of two point five million pounds, where he made 113 appearances and was instrumental in securing three consecutive Scottish Premier League championships from 2008 to 2011. After his time in Scotland, he moved to Lekhwiya in Qatar for one point seven million pounds and subsequently played for Fujairah in the UAE before concluding his club career with a brief stint at Aris in Greece.

On the international stage, Bougherra represented Algeria from 2004 to 2015, earning seventy caps and scoring four goals. He played in the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations, where Algeria finished fourth, and participated in both the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups, serving as captain in the latter.

Transitioning to management, Bougherra began coaching the under-23 team of Al Duhail in Qatar in 2017. He took on the role of manager at Fujairah in 2019 but left in February 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In June 2020, he was appointed as the coach of the Algeria A' national team, leading them to victory in the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup. In October 2023, he became the head coach of Al-Markhiya in Qatar, before returning to coach Algeria A' in December 2024, ultimately resigning after their quarter-final exit in the 2025 FIFA Arab Cup.
