Magdalena Sibylla of Saxe-Weissenfels, born on September second, sixteen forty-eight, was a prominent German noblewoman. She was the daughter of August, Duke of Saxe-Weissenfels, and Anna Maria of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. Her lineage included notable figures, as her paternal grandparents were John George I, Elector of Saxony, and Magdalene Sibylle of Prussia.
On November fourteenth, sixteen sixty-nine, Magdalena Sibylla entered into matrimony with Duke Friedrich I of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg. This union was fruitful, resulting in the birth of eight children, each of whom contributed to the noble lineage.
Among her offspring were Anna Sophie, born in Gotha on December twenty-second, sixteen seventy, who later married Louis Frederick I, Prince of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt. Another daughter, Dorothea Marie, born on January twenty-second, sixteen seventy-four, wed Ernst Ludwig I, Duke of Saxe-Meiningen. Frederick II, one of her sons, was born on July twenty-eighth, sixteen seventy-six, and became Duke of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg.
Tragically, not all of her children survived to adulthood. Magdalene Sibylle, born on September thirtieth, sixteen seventy-one, passed away at a young age, as did Elisabeth, who succumbed to smallpox at just over a year old. The legacy of Magdalena Sibylla continues through her surviving children, who played significant roles in the noble courts of their time.
