Maggie Aderin

Dame Margaret Ebunoluwa Aderin, born on 9 March 1968, is a distinguished British space scientist and educator, renowned for her contributions to science communication and engineering. With a career that spans various roles, she has become a prominent figure in the field of astrophysics, captivating audiences with her passion for the cosmos.

As an honorary research associate at University College London's Department of Physics and Astronomy, Aderin has dedicated herself to advancing public understanding of science. She has also taken on the prestigious role of chancellor at the University of Leicester since 1 March 2023, further solidifying her influence in academia.

Since February 2014, Aderin has co-presented the beloved astronomy television program The Sky at Night alongside Chris Lintott, bringing the wonders of the universe into homes across the UK. Her efforts in public engagement were recognized in 2020 when she received the William Thomson, Lord Kelvin Medal and Prize from the Institute of Physics.

Aderin's achievements are particularly noteworthy as she became the first black woman to win a gold medal in the Physics News Award. Additionally, she served as the president of the British Science Association from 2021 to 2022, showcasing her leadership and commitment to promoting science.
