Mahamane Ousmane, born on January twentieth, nineteen fifty, is a prominent Nigerien politician who made history as the youngest elected president in Africa at the age of forty-three. His tenure as the fourth President of Niger began on April sixteenth, nineteen ninety-three, marking a significant milestone as he became the first democratically elected leader of his nation.
Ousmane's presidency was cut short when he was deposed in a military coup d'état on January twenty-seventh, nineteen ninety-six. Despite this setback, he has remained a resilient figure in Niger's political landscape, consistently running for the presidency in every election following his ousting.
In addition to his presidential aspirations, Ousmane served as the president of the National Assembly from December nineteen ninety-nine to May two thousand nine. His political journey continued as he took on the role of president of the Democratic and Republican Renewal (RDR Tchanji) in April twenty-twenty, leading a major opposition party.
On December sixteenth, two thousand eighteen, RDR Tchanji formed an alliance with Ousmane's other political vehicle, the MNRD Hankuri, further solidifying his influence in Niger's political arena.
