Maialen Chourraut

Maialen Chourraut, born on March eighth, nineteen eighty-three, is a distinguished Spanish slalom canoeist who has made her mark on the international stage since two thousand. Specializing in the K1 event and later expanding her repertoire to include kayak cross, Chourraut has become a prominent figure in the world of competitive kayaking.

Throughout her illustrious career, Chourraut has participated in five Olympic Games, earning a remarkable collection of medals. She achieved gold in the K1 event at the twenty sixteen Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, followed by a silver medal in the same event at the twenty twenty Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Her Olympic journey began with a bronze medal at the twenty twelve Summer Olympics in London, while her debut in the twenty eight Summer Olympics in Beijing saw her finish sixteenth after being eliminated in the heats.

In addition to her Olympic success, Chourraut has also excelled at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships, securing a silver medal in the K1 event in two thousand nine and a bronze in two thousand eleven. Her prowess in team events was highlighted by a silver medal in the K1 team event in twenty twenty-three. Furthermore, she has claimed four medals at the European Championships, including one gold and three silvers.

As a testament to her standing in the sport, the Spanish Olympic Committee selected Chourraut to be one of the flag bearers at the opening ceremony of the twenty twenty-four Paris Olympics, alongside fellow canoeist Marcus Cooper. However, she graciously declined the honor to focus on her competition the following day in the K1 slalom, with sailor Tamara Echegoyen stepping in as her replacement due to her impressive Olympic record.
