Mairead Maguire

Mairead Maguire, born on January 27, 1944, is a prominent peace activist hailing from Northern Ireland. Known for her unwavering commitment to peace, she has played a pivotal role in advocating for a harmonious resolution to the longstanding conflict known as the Troubles.

In collaboration with Betty Williams and Ciaran McKeown, Maguire co-founded Women for Peace, an initiative that later evolved into the Community for Peace People. This organization was dedicated to fostering dialogue and understanding among communities affected by violence, aiming to promote a peaceful coexistence.

Her efforts in peace activism were recognized on a global scale when she, alongside Williams, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in nineteen seventy-six. This prestigious accolade underscored her dedication to non-violence and her tireless work in the pursuit of peace.
