Maksim Opalev

Maksim Opalev, born on April fourth, nineteen seventy-nine, is a retired Russian sprint canoeist renowned for his remarkable achievements in the sport. His career is highlighted by participation in three Summer Olympics, where he showcased his prowess in the C-1 500 m event, earning a complete set of medals: gold in two thousand eight, silver in two thousand, and bronze in two thousand four.

Opalev's talent was evident from a young age, as he clinched two gold medals at the age of sixteen during the 1995 World Junior Championships held in Yamanashi, Japan. Competing against older athletes, he triumphed in the C-2 1000 m event alongside Konstantin Fomichev and also secured gold in the C-4 500 m race. His success continued at the subsequent World Junior Championships in Lahti, Finland, in nineteen ninety-seven, where he won the C-1 1000 m title.

Throughout his career, Opalev has amassed an impressive total of twenty medals at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships from nineteen ninety-seven to two thousand seven. His accolades include eleven gold medals in various events, such as the C-1 200 m and C-1 500 m, alongside six silver and three bronze medals. Notably, he achieved two additional golds at the two thousand three World Championships in Gainesville, Georgia, although these were later stripped due to a teammate's doping violation.
