Malcolm Ford, born in December 1936 in Edinburgh, was a notable Scottish cricketer who made significant contributions to the sport during the 1960s. The son of cricketer Alexander Ford, he was educated at the prestigious Edinburgh Academy, which laid the foundation for his sporting career.
Ford began his cricketing journey as a club player for West Lothian Cricket Club before making his first-class debut for Scotland against Ireland in 1960 at Paisley. Over the course of his career, he represented Scotland in ten first-class matches until 1966, accumulating a total of 235 runs with an average of 18.07. His standout performance included a half-century, scoring 50 runs against Ireland in 1961.
In addition to his playing career, Ford also made a mark off the field, notably scoring in a match between Scotland and Warwickshire in 1965. Outside of cricket, he worked as a sales representative, balancing his professional life with his passion for the sport.
Sadly, toward the end of his life, Ford faced challenges with alcoholism, which ultimately led to his passing in April 1987. He was also the brother of footballer Donald Ford, highlighting a family legacy in sports.
