Malcolm Ranjith, born on November fifteenth, nineteen forty-seven, is a prominent Sri Lankan Catholic prelate who has made significant contributions to the Church. Since two thousand nine, he has held the esteemed position of Archbishop of Colombo, a role that underscores his leadership and dedication to the Catholic community in Sri Lanka.
In two thousand ten, Ranjith was elevated to the rank of cardinal, further solidifying his influence within the Church. His journey began as the auxiliary bishop of Colombo from nineteen ninety-one to nineteen ninety-five, after which he served as the Bishop of Ratnapura until two thousand one.
Ranjith's career is marked by various important roles, including his tenure as the Adjunct Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples from two thousand one to two thousand four. He then took on the responsibilities of Apostolic Nuncio to Indonesia and East Timor for a year before returning to Rome as the Secretary of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments from two thousand five until his appointment as Archbishop.
