Malini Awasthi

Malini Awasthi, born on February eleventh, nineteen sixty-seven, is a celebrated Indian singer renowned as the Folk Queen of India. With a strong foundation in classical music, she excels in various forms of Hindustani music, including vintage Dadra, Thumri, and Kajri Chaiti. Her extensive musical knowledge is beautifully showcased in her renditions of Ghazals and Sufiyaana Kalaam.

A dedicated disciple of the esteemed Padma Vibhushan Vidushi Girija Devi, Malini is well-versed in the 'Chaumukhi gayan' style of the Benares Gharana. Her linguistic prowess allows her to perform in multiple dialects and languages, such as Awadhi, Bhojpuri, Bundeli, and Braj, enriching her performances with cultural depth.

In recognition of her significant contributions to the music of India, the Government of India honored her with the prestigious Padma Shri award in two thousand sixteen. Beyond her musical career, she has also shared her expertise as a visiting professor at the Centre for Media Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University and currently serves as a Professor of Practice at Chaudhary Charan Singh University in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.
