Mamai

Mamai, born in the year 1335, emerged as a formidable Turco-Mongol military commander and held the esteemed title of beylerbey within the Golden Horde. Hailing from the Kiyat clan, he played a pivotal role in the political landscape of his time, serving as a kingmaker for several khans rather than assuming the title of khan himself.

Throughout the tumultuous years of the 1360s and 1370s, Mamai dominated significant territories of the Golden Horde, showcasing his military prowess and strategic acumen. Despite his influence, he faced the daunting challenge of stabilizing central authority during the Great Troubles, a war of succession that plagued the Golden Horde in the fourteenth century.

His leadership was marked by resilience, as he remained a notable figure in a period characterized by rapid changes in leadership. However, his fortunes shifted dramatically following his defeat at the Battle of Kulikovo, where an alliance of Russian principalities dealt a significant blow to his power. This defeat not only signaled the decline of the Golden Horde but also precipitated Mamai's own swift downfall.
