Mamphela Ramphele

Mamphela Ramphele, born on December twenty-eighth, nineteen forty-seven, is a prominent South African politician, anti-apartheid activist, and accomplished medical doctor. Her journey is marked by her unwavering commitment to social justice and equality, which she championed during the tumultuous years of apartheid in South Africa.

As a partner of the renowned anti-apartheid activist Steve Biko, Ramphele played a significant role in the struggle against racial oppression. Together, they had two children, and her partnership with Biko profoundly influenced her activism and professional pursuits.

Ramphele's academic achievements include serving as the vice-chancellor at the University of Cape Town, where she made significant contributions to higher education. Additionally, she held the position of managing director at the World Bank, showcasing her leadership in both educational and financial sectors.

In February two thousand thirteen, she founded the political party Agang South Africa, aiming to address the challenges facing her country. However, she stepped back from politics in July two thousand fourteen.
