Maneca

Manuel Marinho Alves, affectionately known as Maneca, was born on January 28, 1926, in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. He carved a niche for himself in the world of association football as a talented striker, showcasing his skills on the field from 1943 to 1957.

Throughout his illustrious career, Maneca played for several prominent clubs, including Galícia, Vitória, Vasco da Gama, and Bangu. His remarkable contributions to the sport were highlighted by his victories in four Rio de Janeiro State Championships in the years nineteen forty-seven, nineteen forty-nine, nineteen fifty, and nineteen fifty-two, as well as his triumph in the South American Club Championship of nineteen forty-eight.

Maneca's prowess was not limited to club football; he also represented the Brazilian national team in the nineteen fifty FIFA World Cup. During the tournament, he participated in four matches and netted one goal, further solidifying his legacy in Brazilian football.

Tragically, Maneca's life came to an untimely end on July 14, 1961, following complications from an attempted suicide that occurred on June 28, 1961. He passed away in his girlfriend's home, leaving behind a legacy that continues to resonate in the world of football.
