Manny Villar

Manuel "Manny" Bamba Villar Jr. was born on December 13, 1949, in Tondo, a densely populated and impoverished district of Manila. He emerged from humble beginnings, demonstrating resilience and determination that would shape his future. After completing his education at the University of the Philippines, Villar began his career as an accountant and financial analyst, eventually venturing into the real estate business.

Villar's entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish a highly successful real estate company, which has constructed over two hundred thousand homes. His business acumen not only made him a prominent figure in the industry but also positioned him as the wealthiest individual in the Philippines, with an estimated net worth of seventeen point two billion dollars as of 2025, according to Forbes magazine.

In addition to his business success, Villar has had a significant political career. He served as a senator from 2001 to 2013 and held the prestigious role of the 25th President of the Senate of the Philippines from 2006 to 2008. His political journey began in the House of Representatives, where he represented the district of Las Piñas–Muntinlupa from 1992 to 1998 and the at-large district of Las Piñas from 1998 to 2001. Notably, he presided over the impeachment of President Joseph Estrada during his tenure as Speaker of the House from 1998 to 2000.

In the 2010 presidential elections, Villar ran under the Nacionalista Party but was ultimately defeated by Benigno Aquino III. Despite this setback, his legacy as a businessman and politician continues to influence the landscape of the Philippines.
