Mansur Yavaş

Mansur Yavaş, born on May twenty-third, nineteen fifty-five, is a prominent Turkish lawyer and politician currently serving as the Mayor of Ankara since April two thousand nineteen. He emerged victorious in the 2019 Ankara mayoral election as the candidate of the Nation Alliance, a coalition formed by the Republican People's Party (CHP) and the Good Party, marking a significant shift in the political landscape of the capital.

Yavaş's political journey began as a nationalist, serving as the Mayor of Beypazarı, a district in Ankara, under the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) from nineteen ninety-nine until two thousand nine. After leaving the MHP in two thousand thirteen, he joined the CHP and ran for mayor in the two thousand fourteen local elections, where he narrowly lost by a mere one percentage point amidst allegations of electoral fraud that even reached the European Court of Human Rights.

Returning to the political arena in two thousand nineteen, Yavaş was once again the CHP's candidate, this time bolstered by the support of the Good Party. His election victory, with fifty point nine percent of the vote, was a testament to his resilience and popularity among the electorate.

During his tenure, Yavaş has been lauded for his effective management of the COVID-19 pandemic in Ankara, ensuring that municipal workers' wages were maintained and that street animals were cared for despite the challenges posed by the pandemic. His fiscal policies have also been credited with significantly reducing the municipality's budget deficit by eliminating wasteful spending.

In two thousand twenty, Yavaş achieved a remarkable satisfaction rating of seventy-three point two percent, surpassing other prominent political figures, including Istanbul's mayor and the President of Turkey. His popularity culminated in receiving the prestigious World Mayor Capital Award in two thousand twenty-one. Following a successful re-election in the two thousand twenty-four mayoral election, he is now viewed as a potential contender for the next presidential election in Turkey.
