Manuel A. Odría

Manuel A. Odría, born on November twenty-sixth, nineteen ninety-seven, was a prominent military officer who ascended to the role of the forty-fifth President of Peru. His rise to power was marked by the dramatic 1948 coup d'état, during which he ousted President José Luis Bustamante y Rivero, effectively seizing control of the nation.

As a ruler, Odría established a dictatorial regime, suppressing political opposition and maneuvering to maintain his grip on power. In a controversial move, he prevented other candidates from participating in the nineteen fifty Peruvian general election, which he won unopposed, securing one hundred percent of the vote.

Despite his authoritarian rule, Odría attempted to distance himself from the coup plotters who initially facilitated his rise, positioning himself as a populist leader. His tenure was not without challenges, as he faced multiple coup attempts that tested his authority.

Under increasing pressure, Odría eventually called for general elections in nineteen fifty-six. However, the presidential election resulted in a defeat for him, with Manuel Prado Ugarteche emerging as the victor, marking a significant shift in Peru's political landscape.
