Manuel Godoy

He rose to prominence as the First Secretary of State of the Kingdom of Spain, serving from seventeen ninety-two to seventeen ninety-seven and again from eighteen oh one to eighteen oh eight. His ascent to power was marked by his close relationship with King Charles IV and Queen Maria Luisa, which included a controversial romantic involvement.

During his tenure, Godoy became a central figure in Spanish politics, particularly during the tumultuous period of Napoleon's rise and subsequent invasion of Spain. His policies and decisions have been scrutinized, with some attributing the onset of the Anglo-Spanish War of seventeen ninety-six to eighteen oh eight to his leadership, a conflict that significantly weakened the Spanish Empire.
