Marcella Liburd, born on July tenth, nineteen fifty-three, is a distinguished Kittitian politician who currently serves as the fifth Governor-General of Saint Kitts and Nevis, a position she has held since two thousand twenty-three. Her career is marked by a commitment to public service and education, having initially trained as a teacher before advancing her qualifications to become a barrister and solicitor.
Liburd has made history as the first woman to hold both the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Governor-General roles in Saint Kitts and Nevis. Notably, she is also the first Governor-General appointed by Charles the Third, marking a significant transition from the previous reign of Elizabeth the Second.
Throughout her career, she has held various ministerial positions, including Acting Prime Minister and Chair of the Opposition for the Labour Party.
