Marcin Bielski

Marcin Bielski, born in 1495, was a distinguished Polish poet, historian, translator, and writer. He emerged from noble lineage, hailing from the patrimonial estate of Biała in Pajęczno County, located within the Polish province of Sieradz. His family name is derived from this estate, while his alternate surname, Wolski, reflects his connection to Wola.

As a prominent figure of the Renaissance, Bielski was not only a soldier but also a chronicler and satirical poet. His literary contributions were significant, marking him as one of the first to utilize the Polish language in his works, earning him the title of the father of Polish prose. His legacy is further enriched by his son, Joachim Bielski, who served as the royal secretary to King Sigismund III Vasa and followed in his father's footsteps as a historian and poet.
