Marcos Rojo, born on March 20, 1990, is an accomplished Argentine professional footballer who currently plays as a defender for Racing Club in the Argentine Primera División. Primarily a centre-back, Rojo also showcases versatility by playing as a left-back when needed.
His football journey began at Estudiantes, where he made a significant impact by winning the prestigious Copa Libertadores in 2009. That same year, he participated in the FIFA Club World Cup Final and celebrated a Primera División title in 2010, marking the start of a promising career.
After a brief stint with Spartak Moscow, Rojo joined Sporting CP in 2012, before making a high-profile transfer to Manchester United for sixteen million pounds in 2014. During his time with the English club, he secured four major trophies, including the FA Cup in the 2015-16 season and the FA Community Shield, EFL Cup, and UEFA Europa League in 2016-17.
Despite his successes, Rojo faced challenges at Manchester United, leading to a loan return to Estudiantes in January 2020. In February 2021, he made a permanent move to Boca Juniors, continuing his professional journey in Argentine football.
On the international stage, Rojo earned his first cap for Argentina in 2011, accumulating a total of sixty-one appearances over eight years. He was part of the national team that reached the FIFA World Cup Final in 2014 and was a runner-up in the Copa América in both 2015 and 2016, as well as participating in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
