Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Mardavij

Mardavij, also known as Mardavij the Great, was a prominent Iranian prince born into a Zoroastrian family in Gilan. His ambition was to restore a native Iranian Zoroastrian empire reminiscent of the illustrious Sasanian Empire, which had fallen to the Rashidun Caliphate in the seventh century. His journey began in the military, where he initially served under his kinsman, Asfar ibn Shiruya.

However, Mardavij's aspirations led him to betray and assassinate Asfar, allowing him to conquer much of Jibal. With a newfound power, he set his sights on the territories of Hamadan, Dinavar, and Isfahan, ultimately declaring himself king of Iran and establishing Isfahan as his capital.

In 932, Mardavij achieved a significant victory over the Daylamite military leader Makan ibn Kaki, further expanding his dominion to include Tabaristan. By the year 934, his influence extended as far as Shiraz and Ahvaz, marking a notable resurgence of Iranian authority in the region.

Tragically, Mardavij's dream of recreating a grand Iranian Empire was cut short when he was murdered by his own Turkic slaves in 935, a betrayal that underscored the tumultuous nature of his reign.
