Marek Hamšík, born on July 27, 1987, is a distinguished Slovak football coach and former player, renowned for his role as a midfielder. Currently, he serves as the team manager and assistant coach for the Slovakia national team, showcasing his commitment to the sport even after his playing days.
Hamšík began his professional career with Slovan Bratislava in 2004, before making a significant move to Italian club Brescia later that year. His career took a pivotal turn in 2007 when he joined Napoli, a newly promoted Serie A club. Over twelve seasons, he became a cornerstone of the team, amassing 521 appearances and scoring 121 goals. His leadership and creativity on the field were instrumental in securing two Coppa Italia titles and a Supercoppa Italiana. Notably, he served as Napoli's captain from 2014 to 2019, becoming the club's all-time top goalscorer in 2017 and its all-time appearance holder in 2018.
In February 2019, Hamšík transitioned to Dalian Professional in China, followed by a stint at Trabzonspor in Turkey, where he celebrated a Süper Lig title in his first season and the Turkish Super Cup in his second. He announced his retirement in 2023, leaving behind a legacy of excellence.
On the international stage, Hamšík represented the Slovakia national team from 2007 to 2023, earning 138 caps and scoring 26 goals.
