Margaret Douglas, Countess of Lennox, born on 8 October 1515, was a prominent figure in the Tudor court. As the daughter of Margaret Tudor, the Scottish queen dowager, and Archibald Douglas, 6th Earl of Angus, she was intricately linked to the royal lineage, being the granddaughter of King Henry VII of England and the half-sister of King James V of Scotland.
In her early years, Margaret enjoyed the favor of her uncle, Henry VIII. However, her life took a tumultuous turn when she faced his wrath due to her secret engagement to Lord Thomas Howard, who met a tragic fate in the Tower of London in 1537. This incident marked a significant shift in her relationship with the English crown.
In 1544, Margaret married Matthew Stewart, the 4th Earl of Lennox, further solidifying her status within the Scottish nobility. Her lineage continued to influence the monarchy, as her son, Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley, became the husband of her niece, Mary, Queen of Scots, and the father of James VI and I, thus intertwining their fates in the annals of history.
