In nineteen seventy-eight, she was appointed to the Senate on the advice of Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, representing the senatorial division of Northumberland--Miramichi, New Brunswick. A dedicated member of the Liberal Party of Canada, she served until her retirement at the age of seventy-five in nineteen ninety.

She served as a past president of the United Church Women (UCW) and was a member of the St. James & St. John's United Church.
