Margaret Meagher

Margaret Meagher, born on January twenty-seventh, nineteen eleven, was a trailblazing Canadian diplomat who made history as the first woman to be appointed as an ambassador in Canada. Her remarkable career spanned several decades, during which she held significant diplomatic positions that shaped Canada's international relations.

From nineteen fifty-eight to nineteen sixty-one, Meagher served as the Canadian Ambassador to Israel, where she played a crucial role in fostering diplomatic ties. Following her tenure in Israel, she continued her impactful work as the Ambassador to Austria from nineteen sixty-two to nineteen sixty-six, and later as the Ambassador to Sweden from nineteen sixty-nine to nineteen seventy-three.

In addition to her ambassadorships, Meagher held the esteemed position of High Commissioner to Cyprus, Uganda, and Kenya. Her leadership extended to the international stage as she chaired the International Atomic Energy Agency Board of Governors from nineteen sixty-four to nineteen sixty-five, further demonstrating her commitment to global diplomacy and security.
